National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan的Meng-Fan (Marvin) CHANG 老师将访问实验室,并作学术报告,报告时间是7月23日上午9:30,光电实验室A302,题目是Challenges in Circuit Designs for Emerging Memory and SSD Storage。
Abstract:
Memory has become one of the bottlenecks for wearable devices, cloud servers, and big-data processing to achieve low energy consumption. Resistive-type emerging memories (STT-MRAM, PCRAM and ReRAM) are the candidates for energy-efficient nonvolatile memory. 3D-NAND memory provides significant cost-performance improvement for SSD-based storage. This talk will discuss the trends and design challenges in circuits and applications for emerging memory and 3D-NAND. Several silicon examples will be presented, including resistive-type emerging and 3D memory macros. New applications, such as nonvolatile-SRAM (nvSRAM), nonvolatile logics, and nonvolatile TCAM (nvTCAM) in wireless sensor network and big-data processors will also be presented in this talk.
Biography
Dr. Chang is the Associate Executive Director (副執行長) of Taiwan’s National Program for Intelligent Electronics (NPIE) since 2011. He joined Electrical Engineering of National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan, in 2006. Currently, he is a Professor in NTHU. Before joint NTHU, he had worked in industry over 10 years. During 1997~2006, he had developed SRAM/ROM/Flash in Mentor Graphics (New Jersey, US), TSMC (Taiwan), and Intellectual property Library Company (Taiwan). His research interests include circuit designs for volatile and nonvolatile memory, emerging nano-devices, 3D-Memory, memristor logics, ultra-low-voltage systems, and memory for big-data processing.
In the past 5 years, Dr. Chang has authored or co-authored 26 conference papers (8 ISSCC, 11 VLSI Symposia, 4 IEDM, 3 DAC) and 25+ IEEE journal papers, and hold 25+ U.S. patents. He has been serving a program committee for IEDM, A-SSCC, ISCAS, VLSI-DAT, EDSSC, NVMSA, and numerous conferences. He received the Academia Sinica Junior Research Investigators Award in 2012, the Ta-You Wu Memorial Award (吳大猷先生紀念獎) of National Science Council (NSC-Taiwan) in 2011, and Outstanding Industrial Collaboration Award of NTHU in 2012. He has also received numerous awards from the Taiwan National Chip Implementation Center (CIC), MXIC Golden Silicon Awards, and ITRI.
